DNA paternity testing is a scientific process that can positively identify relationships between people from their DNA. Most commonly it is used to establish if a man is the true biological father of a child. DNA paternity testing is also often referred to simply as a DNA test, a paternity test or DNA testing.

A simple test, using the blood types of both parents and the child, can sometimes help to rule out a particular man as the father. But to completely prove paternity, scientists need to examine either blood samples, or a sample of cheek cells, taken on a swab from the inside of the cheek. The child and each of the parents must provide the same type of sample (cheek cells or blood). By examining the individual genetic markers in DNA, they can give an answer that’s more than 99% accurate.
